Incorporating printed magnets with your save the date mailing
Mailing your magnets out alone. You want to mail a save the date, don’t have a lot of information to include, and want something striking.
The easy way:
1) 5.5x4.25 inch magnets can be mailed right out in envelopes of about the same size.
2) 4x3.5 inch and 4.2x2.6 inch magnets can be mailed right out in 5x3.5 inch envelopes.
Consider going with colored envelopes to jazz things up even more. If you get a metallic envelope… think in advance about how you will get the addresses on the envelope, remembering to check on whether the ink you use will smear if touched.
The not so easy:
1) 2x5.5 inch magnets- the best envelope size to mail those out in is 3.5x6 inches. Because of this, people sometimes add a card- of the 3.5x6 inch size, or larger.
2) For 3.5x2 inch magnets, you have even more of a size difference to contend with. The smallest mail-able envelope size is 5x3.5 inches.
For these two sizes, you might just want to consider attaching the magnet to a blank card. It could be a white card… or it could be a colored, textured card. You could use slits in the card, photo corners, or even ribbon (with holes punched in the card) to attach the magnet.
Mailing your magnets out with cards or more information. If you want an informative save the date, but want to add something fun, you need a combination mailing.
The easy way:
1) Print out a page or letter with information, fold it up, and toss it in with the magnet.
2) A popular option is to get a simple 5.5x4.25 inch card with hotel, flight, or more information, printed on the front and back. You could then include any of various magnet sizes in with the card- small, medium, large, heart shaped, circle shaped, you name it.
3) Another popular combination for cards and magnets is: a folded card with slits to hold small magnets. A small compact 5.5x4.5 inch card can hold a reasonable amount of information. Combined with a small magnet, you end up with a compact and effective save the date mailing.
The not so easy:
DIY! You can come up with almost any sort of card and attach your magnet via various means. Flat, folded, multi-piece combinations… If you are interested in help with your DIY idea, I may be able to help, at least with the printing, if not the assembly.
But wait, what about including a save the date within another unrelated mailing?
Easy! It's actually a popular idea to include a small magnet in with Christmas cards or family newsletters. You could add the magnet right on in, but it's also nice to put your small magnet in a tiny envelope (say, red, for Christmas, or a partially see-through vellum) before adding it in with the mailing.
